Can J-1 Visa Teachers Work On Another Job?

Under the J-1 visa program, teachers can only work at their designated host school indicated on their DS-2019. (This includes summer jobs or after-school jobs).

They are not allowed to have any other source of income in the USA, additional employment, or receive compensation from any other source than the host school printed on their legal documents. (This includes self-employment or cash-only transactions).

As part of the J1 visa application process, teachers must demonstrate their ability to support themselves financially during their time in the United States.

Any unauthorized work outside the J-1 host school is forbidden and a ground for immediate termination or cancellation of their J-1 visa status.
